Read, write, written August 29, 2010 Devilin Hart (Crookston, MN. USA) This product is probably the single best purchase I've recently made for card useage. Easy to use, goes anywhere and does it all.
slow on mac with compact flash August 17, 2010 GT (Houston, TX United States) Copying a SanDisk Extreme 16GB rated at "60MB/s" (UDMA3) gets copied to the hard disk of my MacBook Pro (Intel) in roughly 58 minutes. Assuming that the reader is limited by the USB 2.0 bandwidth (reasonable assumption), this should limit the reading speed to about 20MB/s, which would require around 14 minutes to copy, not 58. Therefore, there's a problem with either the controller on this reader, or maybe some Mac incompatibility.
Please note that other reviewers confirm my problems, so this product is clearly not functioning properly with Macs. I would suggest looking for some different product instead if you desire speed.
Works great! August 12, 2010 B. Tolbert (Mississippi) I was looking for a reader that would read the large (4Gb or better) SD cards for a Canon video recorder we had got recently. After installing on system (Windows XP pro, Dell 3.4Ghz, 2Gb ram) I had several more drive letters. I didn't try downloading the cards before I got this reader because I had no SD card reader at all. Downloading the videos is fast on a USB 2.0 slot. 8 gigs takes about 2 minutes. Very easy to install just one note though: always use it on the same USB port that it was originally set up on. I accidently plugged it into another one, one time, and the download speed was ridiculously slow! Like 1 gig per hour!?? Don't know why that was but as long as I use it in the same port, works great. Would have given 5 stars but seems a bit flimsy (plastic case) and you must be very careful when you insert cards into slots as it is very easy to get them misaligned.
